There's a salsa congress in mid September, I believe. |

| Hi Tj. :) Yeah, I knew about the Salsa Congress. :) Unfortunately, I won't be there until after October. :( |

I lived in the RDU area for 2 years. Very pretty. October is the ideal time to head to mountains for fall colors. If you can make it out to Asheville, then that should be stunning fall color.
Duke University has a very pretty campus and garden. The church on site is also something to see.
Downtown raleigh has a few interesting museums. There is also a short trolley tour of about 1 hour that will give you the scoop on the town.
Chapel Hill is also a university town with great atmosphere.
Refer to triangle.citysearch.com website for more local information closer to your visiting time. |

I live in Cary which is right next to Raleigh. Moved here in September 2004 from my native NJ.
This is a particularly lovely area. The town is sprawling, but they have incorporate plenty of parks, bike trails, and nature areas within the town.
Raleigh, being the state capitol, has plenty to offer. I have yet to take advantage of many of state museums and other facilities yet, but I have been to, and joined, the Durham Museum of Life and Science. A great family place too with outdoor train ride, butterfly exhibit, bug display, dinosaur exhibits, etc.
Right this very moment it is ACC Men's Basketball time, so people are busy listening or watching the games. UNC is the #2 team in the nation; they are in nearby Chapel Hill. Duke, in Durham, is a few spots behind and NC State is a tough team as well.
The best seasons are Spring and Fall. Summer can be hot and sticky, plus last year we certainly had our share of mosquitos. Winter is mild with very little snow. |

My parents have a place in Maggie Valley, which is west of Asheville. IT's smack in the mountains and is so beautiful. I love white water rafting and there's 5 or 6 rivers within an hours drive of each other. French Lick and the Nantahala are nice beginners rivers.
Then there's Chimney Rock. They filmed Last of the Mohicans there and it's just simply gorgeous. The walk up is tiring but worth it. Plus, when you get to the top, if it's late or you're beat, there's an elevator straight to the bottom, straight through the mountain - so cool. |
