Just read an interesting survey on Tripadvisor.com. It asked the following questions-
What's the most romantic US city for a Valentine's Day getaway?
Respondents answered in this order; New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Savannah, Miami, Charleston(SC), Santa Fe, Chicago and Orlando.
What is your favorite type of Valentine's Day getaway?
The most popular answer was "exploring a new city", followed by "returning to a favorite city", "taking a beach trip", "going to a spa" and "skiing".
What kind of lodging would you prefer for a Valentine's Day weekend?
A majoriity of the respondents said a luxury hotel would be best, followed by moderate hotel, B & B or inn and budget. |

I'd just be happy if Hubby-san were home...this is the 2nd year in a row that he's had to be in India on business for the month of Februrary. And the sad thing is that my birthday is the day before Valentine's Day, so he's missing that too for the 2nd year. Sigh.
Okay, if he were home and we decided to get away we'd opt for a B&B someplace where we can go hiking. The B&B would have to have a hot tub and a fireplace, too :) |

| I was surprised to see Charleston on the list. Never been there, so I can't even imagine what the place is like. I got a lovely image of the old south, it's plantation houses & Savannah when I saw the very cool movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil"(Kevin Spacey, John Cusack, c. 2000). Over here, I'm in the middle of final exams at the universities so I can't get away. Do that in March when we're on spring break... |

I used to live in Charleston, it's quite nice down by the harbour. There are lovely old houses and gardens, a nice sea wall to walk around, and many good restaurants. Outside of town are various plantations to tour, and you can also go to Ft. Sumter. There are also the barrier islands, like Kiawah, with beaches, country clubs, and so on.
The first time I ever ate escargot was at a place called Fratelli's in Charleston :-) |
