Fun list! My sister-in-law gave me abook, "1,001 places to see before you die" for Christmas. Let's see, from your list I've visited:
Florida
South Island, New Zealand
Las Vegas
New York
Great Wall of China
Hong Kong
Yosemite
Hawaii
Auckland, New Zealand
Paris, France
Alaska
Angkor Wat, Cambodia
San Francisco, USA (I live there!!!!!!)
Barcelona, Spain
Bangkok, Thailand
Terracotta Army, China (it's near the city of Xi'an)
My husband has been to the above, except for Hong Kong and the Terracotta army, plus:
The Grand Canyon
Golden Temple, India
Singapore
Sri Lanka
I was actually supposed to be in India right now, then going on to Sri Lanka, but when the tsunami hit I decided to donate the money I would have spent on my plane ticket to the Red Cross. Hubby-san and I are talking about going to Sri Lanka near the end of this year, though. He has a friend in Columbo, and we want to do our part to stimulate the return of the tourism economy. |

This was actually what I was searching for on Google when I found the BBC list. I saw the book in the store, and thought about buying it so that I could use it as a resource to start topics, but decided against it at the time.
I have also been to San Francisco (which is a long way off from Atlanta). |

You can get that book on the usual book selling web sites...Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Powell's....
When I first got it I leafed through the book and put a big check mark next to each place I'd been to. There's a whole lot out there for me to go see! I managed to knock off a couple of them last month when I went to China and Hong Kong, though (Hangzhou's West Lake, riding the Star Ferry from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon). |

| Would anyone know under what criteria BBC decided to choose those places? They certainly left off a lot of very historically & culturally unique places. |

| Yeah, I was kind of suprised by their list, too. The list was decided by 20,000 viewers of their "Holiday" program. |

| I was like "Maldives?" A totally man-made, all-inclusive ultimate resort on a secluded chain of islands. Great place for a honeymoon, maybe, but it's not on my list of places to go. Need to be more World Heritage Sites. R & R is cool, but there is so much rich history & culture ou there to see! |

| Yeah, that's kind of how I felt about seeing Las Vegas on the list...but now that we know it's more of a "favorite vacation ideas" list it makes more sense. Like, I love going on cruises with my mom, and personally think everyone should try one once for the heck of it, but it's not up there with the UNESCO World Heritage list. Although it can be: Mom & I are combining the two in an upcoming trip. Our cruise stops at a World Heritage site in the Caribbean :) |

| Laura wrote: Our cruise stops at a World Heritage site in the Caribbean :) That sounds really nice! Both my parents(going their own ways as they are divorced) LOVE cruises, and I have only been on one once, to the Caribbean. Which line are you using? |

| We're doing Celebrity this time. Our strategy is to wait until about 6-8 weeks before when we want to go, and then look around and see where the deals are. It's worked well for us. |
