Its funny, when I mentioned going skiing (in Australia) to some Americans during a trip to New York, most of them were pretty surprised. Most people tend to think of Australia as mostly desert. That's actually true, but even in this wasteland there's still plenty of winter sports to try.
Some notable skiing locations include Mt Buller, Falls Creek, or Hotham. For a more family-oriented skiing experience, a place called Lake Mountain in Victoria offers smaller slopes, which means your kids don't need to fear crazy hardcore skiiers slamming into them at 50 miles per hour.
On the other hand, if you're a hardcore skiier who grew up on the slopes of Switzerland and Austria, you probably won't find much value in Australia's snowfields. Of course, since Australia's seasons are the opposite to Europe/North America, you could always escape the northern hemisphere heat in Australia... |
