If you find yourself in the New York City suburbs, particularly in New Jersey, head north on Route 17 to Ridgewood, NJ to the Old Paramus Reformed Church.

The present church building was built in 1800, but the congregation traces its history back to 1725; during its earlier days the church was visited by General George Washington. You simply get a wonderful Revolutionary War feel when at the church; make sure you notice the lovely bell tower and step outside to the nearby graveyard and trace headstones back 300 years.

Also on the property is the schoolhouse, which is now a museum. It is only open most Sundays and occassionally on a holiday; it is dank and musty inside but the samples of period clothing, Native American artifacts, and colonial furniture is terrific.

To reach the church, exit at Glen Avenue in Ridgewood and follow signs to the church which is located directly across from the Valleau Cemetary.
