Similar to the Great Wall of China, this world heritage site is 73miles in length starting from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway... If you are a historical buff, make sure you explore this area to re-live the Roman days...
Built in 122AD (completed in 6 years), these walls were made to protect the Romans... Along this wall, you will find forts and museums telling the fascinating history of the wall. This is a World Heritage site, so you've got to protect the wall by not hacking a piece of it as souvenir. Yes, there are some people who don't care a thing for the world except for themselves. Such selfish actions destroys the heritage and robs our future generation of such historical "monument".
Those who are up to the challenge can take known footpaths along the wall... |

| This area was fascinating for me! The wind was blowing like the dickens and it was bitterly cold, but the site was incredible! My guidebook says it took two million cubic yards of soil and took six years to build the wall! Apparently, the most spectacular section is between Brampton and Corbridge. |
