Fondly known as the "Aichi Banpaku", the expo will open in 2 days, from March 25, and continue till September 25. The expo will feature representatives and displays from 122 countries, futuristic displays and robotics and items in the IT industry, a REAL frozen mammoth, food from around the world and a 50-meter high Ferris-wheel-style observation ride. The site is open from 9:00am-10:00pm daily and admission for adults is 4600 yen, kids 12-18 2500 yen, kids 4-12 1500 yen and seniors 3700 yen.
*Note- at these events it gets TERRIBLY crowded during the national vacation weeks, namely 4/29-5/5 and in the summer the second week of August.

The "Banpaku! is underway and reportedly doing quite well, despite long lines, sold out attractions and several pavillions not even yet being completed. Another grumble heard by expo visitors is that no food and drink is allowed in the park, thus forcing visitors, should they be hungry, to wait in long lines to buy overpriced, questionable tasting food. After a bit of pleading by Prime Minister Koizumi, visitors will now be allowed to bring in food, as long it is a homemade "bento"(lunchbox). This decision has of course infuriated park food vendors, who fear sales will slump if people are bringing in their own meals. The rationale behind not allowing people to bring in food to begin with, according to park officials, was to prevent against food poisoning. Does this mean that the food being served at the expo is absolutely 100% guaranteed? Does this mean that if people bring in a 3-day old rice ball purchased at a convenience store and get botulism they have grounds to sue the park? Pretty ridiculous if you ask me!
