I would like to recommend the Thai Island of Koh Mook to anybody travelling to Asia. I first heard of the island while travelling south from Bangkok on a long bus journey to Surat Thani. I decided to give it a go, and I wasn’t disappointed. To get there, I continued south to the city of Trang. Once there I booked a bus/boat ticket from Sea Breeze Tour, next to the Train Station, the owner Ying was very helpful. The journey to the island takes about 1hr 30min, and the trip is very scenic, as you pass through many traditional Thai villages. Once of the bus a 40 min boat ride followed, which again was very scenic, as the boat moves towards the island you pass over large areas of shallow sea grass, which are home to the rare dugongs.
Once on the island I was recommended to stay at the Rubber Tree Bungalows. There are other places to stay, and once on the island guests at ‘Maew’s’ and ‘Sawadee Resort’ highly recommended where they were staying. I did meet several people who had stayed at the ‘Charlie Beach Resort,’ and had moved elsewhere as they had not been very satisfied with the level of service, especially as the rooms were considerably more expensive.
The island has a beautiful long sandy beach, which is home to the most beautiful sunsets every evening. The island has a very relaxed feel to it, the food is excellent, the scenery is spectacular, it’s the perfect place to unwind and relax.
I’d have to recommend a trip to the Emerald Cave, the islands of Koh Rok and Koh Kraden, and a snorkelling or diving trip around the surrounding area.
