Things to avoid at the moment are:
1. A travel itinerary that has stopovers/transits at London's Heathrow Airport. Strike going on there at the moment. NOTHING is moving.
2. Travel to Malaysia. Forest fires in Indonesia have all of Kuala Lumpur(the capital) shrouded in smoke. People are donning masks to go outside and schools have been shut down for the duration.
3. Japan Airlines. Once with a spotless record, their maintenance isn't up to par these days. Just last night some parts broke off a plane bound for Fukuoka. (Fortunately, it landed safely and no one was injured.)

Correction on the Fukuoka flight-
The plane was taking off from Fukuoka when the incident occurred. Metal fragments fell onto a residential area Friday evening and a boy and a man were injured(not seriously) when they were struck by fragments falling from the plane. JALways flight 58, a McDonnell Douglas DC-10 aircraft was manufactured in the late 60's. A bit old, if you ask me... |

| Perhaps Bangkok at the moment? Sheesh. Hopefully things will settle down soon, but then the elections'll roll 'round in November sometime. Going there in December, and the Australian, British and US Embassies are issuing travel warnings at the moment. |
