A friend of mine finally finished the film she's been working on for five years, and it's going to have its world permiere in Florence, Italy, next month. I want to go with her to this, and I'm looking for a place to stay in Florence. Rooms are so expensive -- a 3-star B&B is over 100 euros per night. If I have to I could pay up to 125 euros per night, but I'd much much prefer to pay more like 70-85. There's one catch, though: I have to have access to ISDN Internet Service that I can just plug my laptop into. I'm working on a project and need to stay in contact while I'm gone.
Any suggestions are appreciated. |

Laura-
You might want to try the website
http://www.eurocheapo.com/florence/
There are lots of places(clean and nice!) in the 70-80 euro range. If you need internet access, however, you will be looking at business travelers' hotels and the rates there are upwards from 100 euros. You just might want to go for a cheapie, and find a nearby internet cafe and do your work there. 100 euros is a lot of cash, especially if you're going to be staying a week or longer. (I'd rather spend the $ on the great food there!) |

Thanks for the link. I found a site called jwire.com that lists all the WiFi hotspots in Florence -- cafes, hotels, libraries, etc etc. So between that list and your link, I should be able to track something down. I've also been looking at another helpful accomodations site called www.venere.com .
I'm still deciding if I really can afford to go, even with an inexpensive room...I've been travelling so much this year I really can't justify another trip at all, even if it is to see my friend's film. I've been to Hong Kong/mainland China, then on a cruise, then to Cambodia/Sri Lanka, on another short cruise next week, and it's looking like I might spend the week of Thanksgiving in Japan. So adding in this trip to Florence is kind of crazy no matter how I slice it. Sigh. |

| Yeah, it's best to look around a bit. That venere site is pretty pricey, BTW. ($116 a night in Hanoi- shock!) Check out the Hotel Dali Florence and compare prices. There are a lot of B&Bs but a lot of them have ensuite rooms, too. |
