Hello there!

I have a question ?

While on vacation what do most of you about storage space for your
camera's ...how much is enough to bring with you ?

There is always cost to consider ...like maybe some of you can afford to buy extra memory cards for your cameras or external devices.

How about trying some of those new kiosks that Kodak has made available. You can stick your memory card into the correct slot
and the choose which pic you want to print out by touch screen or
have your images copied to a CD while your on vacation. Have any
of you had good experiences with such ?

or do most of you just wait til you get home to take it all off and download it to your computer's, also I guess in that case some of you I'm sure most likely will bring a Laptop with you even though you're on vacation and just download to your pc's.

thanks for any advice or input on this subject,
marsha

Memory prices have come WAY down. Just this week I saw 1 GIG cards for less than what I used to pay for 128 MEG cards. If I had three 512 MEG cards, that would be way more than I'd need for a big trip. Heck, two 512 MEG cards would probably be plenty for me.

I'm afraid to get a 1 GIG card because I read that certain versions of my particular camera have trouble reading some 1 GIG cards. I need to research that some more.

I also edit my photos every night, getting rid of the shots that are just obviously bad.

There's also the question of how many megapixels your camera is, and what type of capture you're using (i.e. low, med, or high quality JPEG, RAW, JPEG + RAW, etc.). Personally I carry a portable storage unit (40 gig) that I gownload my memmory cards into until I get back home and can upload them to my computer. While I'm actually shooting I use a 2 gig card with a 1 gig backup card... but then again, I also do some professional photography on a sporadic basis.

As far as kiosks, yes, I have downloaded from card to CD and I think that's a viable way to go if you know that will be an option for you. I hate deleting anything in the field, unless I have a large screen laptop to judge the actual quality of the shots... certainly don't trust the small LCD screen on the back of your camera!

HTH... and Happy New Year to all!!! :D :D :D

Good point, Jonathan. My camera is a 5 megapixel Nikon CoolPix. So it's a higher-end hobby camera, but not something a professional or serious hobbyist would use. I take pictures at the highest resolution, because when I get a really good shot I like to blow it up and frame it. If I were just taking snapshots for the web or for 3"x5" or 4"x6" prints, I'd use the "normal" resolution, which will get me some incredibly massive number of shots per card.

thanks to you both .... I think that will be the way for me to go is to buy the
higher MB or GB cards. Your also very right in to not assume or delete some pics unless you can see them on a laptop.

I wonder how many ok or savable pics I deleted in the moment  ....oh well.

Prices *have* dropped and there are more higher end camera's coming out too. Also on the kiosk I will need to also know or just find out if they are available at whatever destination a person is going to especially overseas. Thanks for letting me know Jonathan that it worked ok for you. :D

HAPPY NEW YEAR ~~~~ 2006 ~~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

kind regards,
marsha

I spent the cash and got a larger card and I'm so happy I did. Now I don't have to worry at all about how many pictures I take. I think I've got a capacity of about 500 images now.
