I was reading today about how cheap it can be to commute to different countries via air. There is a company called Ryanair where apparently you can fly for around $50 between any two cities in Europe. Has anyone ever done this?

I'm planning to go and it seems this might aid me in seeing more in less time.

Depending on what route, how long in advance you make your reservation, and when you are flying the rates can be even (significantly) cheaper than this, both on Ryan Air and on several other discount airlines in Europe... BUT (!!!!) they also have very, very limmited weight restrictions! I hadn't realized this the first time I flew them and actually ended up having to pay more in excess baggage allowance than for my flight!   :(

Yes, David, Jonathan is right! You have to be very careful about the company you choose... otherwise you might end up paying more than expected... :)
Such things happen... this is why it is maybe a better idea to use the companies that you know... I understood most offer some sort of discount in different periods... it can go down to say 50%!

It pays to shop around...Ryan Air and Easy Jet are known for being cheap, but I've found inexpensive flights on BMI (British Midland) and even BA (British Airways). I once paid $98 round trip from London to Barcelona, and another time $68 from London to Paris. Both of these were in and out of Heathrow.

Yea, Europe is amazing with discount airlines and it's becoming that way for much of the world. I've flown many flights for only the taxes. Easyjet, Ryanair, Wizzair, Air Berlin are just a few. Dozens exist and they are always updating their routes.

As long as you book your tickets a few weeks in advance of your travel dates, it is usually possible to get tickets cheap on the European low cost airlines. This does vary between the airlines, though. It seems that for some routes you need to book up to six months in advance to get the best prices. It can pay to plan ahead and know when the airlines start selling tickets for the next season. If you are looking for cheap flights in Europe you might want to check out Euroflights.info which lists flights operated by a number of the major European low cost airlines.
