I lived just across the river from New York City for about five years. I have mixed feelings about New York. It's definitely worth a visit but I don't consider it particularly beautiful -- not like San Francisco or Barcelona. It's also crowded and expensive. However, New York is very exciting! There's so much going on no matter what you are interested in. You could stay for weeks and still not see or do everything you wanted to, between the museums, the shopping, the performing arts, the restaurants, the sports, exploring the various neighborhoods, visiting architectually important buildings...it just goes on and on. New York is a place that everyone should go at least once. Some people absolutely love it, like I said it's a very exciting place.

Yes, I have been to both San Francisco and New York (once each). San Francisco in definitely more scenic and relaxed, but seeing New York for the first time is awe inspiring. I driving South along the New Jersey coastline, and I have to say, that when I first saw it, I could hardly believe what I was seeing.

There are some great places to go in New York. On my trip, the highlight was definitely the Metropolitan Museum of Art, featuring probably the best collection in the United States. And everything is bigger in New York. For Example, I believe Macy's department store was about 6 different levels.

And of course, New York is known for having a variety of cultures and districts, from Soho to Wall Street to Harlem to Broadway. I was not fortunate enough to see all these places (did see Broadway), but I know there are many places worth seeing, each with their own unique character.

beauty, as some say is in the eye of the beholder, however, as different as it might be to each, the sum of the parts that create the whole is what makes beauiful have meaning on each's eyes.

Nature-lly speaking NY City isn't as gorgeous as the thickness of the Amazone, the hight of the Alpes, the colors of a rose garden, but what it lacks in natures beauty, it is made up by uniqueness in human creation.

There are a million and one faces, all looking and not looking to do and become that which they do. The diversity of the faces is only paralleled by the shades of all the colors in the world.

The many languages letting everyone know the beauty of speech is more profound in no second city. The tall buildings taking over the hidding of the sun as do the trees in a rain forest. The huzzle and buzzle of the streets remenicent of the working body as the blood rushes through the body, white cells fighting viruses, heart beating to stabalize a world that moves as many but is only found in NY City.

There is more to do, to see, that any one lifespan can attest. The decaying facades of Spanish Harlem buildings to the Lates in technoloqy face-lifts in time square. It is all a sight, everyone should see, not for anyone says so, but because you must experience to deem if this beautiful city can be so to you...

I've been to over 25 of the 50 states but sadly have not made it to NY yet. Got tons of friends there, it's just a matter of time before something motivates me to get my sorry carcass on the plane & go check it out! Boriken, I'll look you up when I'm there as my Japanese salsa chick friend whom I'm dying to see is now living in Jersey.(She sez she LOVES NY!)

I was in New York in July last year. As I am from Australia, and had just been to Washington DC just before, the pace of the city was a shock, however once you get used to the fast pace, it is an amazing city, and there is always something to do, and see.

I really enjoyed Wall Street, and the Statue of Liberty, as well as the tour buses. And even just walking the streets is an amazing experience.

New York City is wonderful, terrifying, energetic, electic, amazing, and historic. Almost any word can describe the city at any time, as it is truly the capitol of the world in the eyes of many.

Why the capitol of the world? Well, the United Nations is seated in NY. Americans have a love/hate relationship with this world body, but having the U.N. in the city gives people the opportunity to stop by and take in a session or tour the grounds. You simply get the feeling that the entire world is in front of you while there. Plus, NYC attracts people from all over the world.

Your cab driver is probably from Pakistan or India. The man handing out leaflets on 42nd St. is from Haiti, while the street vendors --- yes, NY has probably more street vendors than anyone --- are from places as diverse as Ecuador, Thailand, Cameroon, Jamaica, etc. Native craft are sold right on the sidewalk. Just make sure that you examine the product and see that it does not say "Made In China" on it!

NYC is five boroughs [or counties]. Most people when they think of New York are really talking about Manhattan [New York County]. There is also The Bronx, Brooklyn [Kings County], Queens, and Staten Island [Richmond County]. Each locale has its own attractions which must be covered separately.

Like most big cities, visit Manhattan by foot. Why? Because if you take a cab, you'll be waiting in traffic. Or a bus, traffic. If you need to get someplace fast, go underground to the subway. Read the map first before boarding any train, otherwise you are certain to go to the wrong destination.

New Yorkers are abrupt, but generally friendly. Go there with a touristy look on your face and you could be pegged by unscrupulous people. Best yet, when you have a question look the person in the eye and be a bit pushy. Don't worry about being, rude... New Yorkers have seen everything.

Where to go to while in the Big Apple? Rockefeller Center, the Empire State Building; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Yankee Stadium [which is in the Bronx]; the Bronx Zoo; Brooklyn Botanical Gardens; Central Park; the Guggenheim Museum; Madison Square Garden; the Chrysler Building; Broadway [yes, take in a show!]; Shea Stadium [in Queens], etc.

Favorite foot tours? Central Park; Greenwich Village; SoHo, NoHo; Chinatown; the Staten Island Ferry; Circle Line; a trip out to the Statue of Liberty; the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights; 42nd Street and Broadway; gosh too many to name.

Traveling the city can take days, but if you want to see most of it plan on spending one week there. Too expensive for you? Google a search for hostels or stay in NJ and take the bus in every day.

I've never stayed in NY for an extended period of time. I've been there for work 3 times for a total of 9 days. I will say that the best meal I've ever had in my life was there. I was on break from working, supervising the load in and construction of a set for a television show, and I wandered into this restaurant off the street. Man.... New York strip in green peppercorn sauce and porcinin and shitake mushrooms. Salad with flowers in it. some sort of soup I can't recall. mmmmmm....
