My friend recently went to floridia for a buisness trip. He was so excited of course because he loves beaches and the ocean. He always has said he doesnt tan well and never used sun tan lotion. Well needless to say he came back as red as a lobster and barely moving lol. The sun fried him completely within 1 day. He now says he will never go without some sort of lotion again lol. I tried telling him floridia was a HOT place...maybe next time he will listen to my advice _________________ - Ryan - |

That reminds me of the time I was in Goa, India, with a Dutch friend. He was hellbent on getting a suntan and ended up fried, with the chills as well(sun exposure!)...he was fine after sleeping the whole evening (we had to party from 10:00pm!) but this group of British folks got sunstroke so badly they had to call the house doctors! Gotta watch el sol! |

Yes, I get sunburned very easily. I'm not the type to hangout on the beach. Where I get in trouble is when I get a water craft like a Jetski or Kayak. I'll be having such a good time that I forget about the sun ... and then it's too late. |

A friend of mine never gets sunburnt...only once, he went with his girlfriend to the seaside and she insisted on his using sun protection under the form of cream... he got burnt so badly he swore he'd never use protection cream again!

I burn so easily that I put on sunblock every day, even at home. My daily moisturizer is SPF 15, and when I'm going to be out all day I put on SPF 30 or 45.
It was very hot when I was in Beijing last week, and between my face sweating and my sunglasses rubbing against the lower orbital bone (the lower part of your eye socket), I got burnt right there. It was funny, because I hadn't had a sunburn in so many years that I couldn't figure out at first why my skin was suddenly so dry and flakey. A few days later I was like D'OH, of course.... |

I was reading the above posts....
And I can definitely attest, since I live here in Tampa.
I remember when my cousin from New York came down here in the 80's, and she tans very easily, like myself.
She went to the beach in the summer here in Florida, and stayed out a little too long. She was red and hurting all over.
She called her brother in NY to tell him about it, I guess to get some sympathy, and he said
"what do you expect, it's a different part of the planet, the sun's rays are a lot stronger down there"
And he's right...the temperatures can be the same, but the UV rays are a lot stronger than appear, especially this time of year. I don't even go to the beach anymore in the summer. When I go, it's usually Oct or Nov, and I still use a lot of sunscreen.
And if you do go, in the summer, all you need is about 15 min of sunshine and that's it. Besides, the heat is so DRAINING.
Take care

I'm very white and get burnt easily so I have to wear sunblock or protection every day even in winter. Of course I didn't always wear protection. I was quite little, around 5 or 6, and I burnt so badly that I was all red and spent a lot of time in the bathtub with cool water. _________________ Candlelight

Oh man, that's just terrible!
I went to NC and spent a week at the beach. I slathered on the sunscreen repeatedly but still ended up burning a bit because I wasn't putting it on often enough.
Here we are around 6 months later though and I still have my tan! |
