Hi all!
This is the first time I write on this forum.
I see that some of you wrote posts about Italy and there are people who love and others who hate this country. I'm from Rome, so I would like to write some posts about the beauties of the Ethernal City.
I recommend all people on this board to go to Rome.
Of course, you will arrive in Rome with an airplane. Then you can take the bus or a taxi for Stazione Termini (which is the main train station of Rome, a very recent building). Be aware of illegal taxi, that are very expensive and out of law! I recommend you to stay in an hotel in the
center of the town, so you can reach a lot of wonderful places with bus, metro and also on feet.
What are the places that you have absolutely to see?
I think that the first day you have to visit the Colosseo. Colosseo is the symbol of Rome and all people know it. You can go to Colosseo easily with the metro (linea B, Colosseo station) and when you get off the train you will see one of the most important buildings on earth. Are you ready to see this extraordinary ancient wonder?
If you like the Colosseo (and I am sure you will like it) you can organize a "archeological travel", in order to discover all the beaties Rome build when the power of Rome rules the world. You can visit Campidoglio (i.e. the building in which there were the meeting between the roman politician and is now the place in which there are the office the Mayor of Rome), near S. Pietro (Vatican City) with the famous Marco Aurelio statua (even if you can see only a copy in the Square),
the Foro Romano,
the Arco di Costantino.
All those places can be reached by feet if you stay in an hotel in the center of the town, but also with bus and metro if you are lazy
But even if you are lazy, you have to make a walk on Via dei Fori Imperiali directing to Piazza Venezia.
Here you will find the "Vittoriano" (we also called typewriter), which is a building created after 1870 (when Rome became the capital of Italy) and dedicated to Vittorio Emanuele, that was the king of Italy, that I don't like very much (it is completely different from the architecture of the city). But at night the lights will on and you will forget all these things and admire a wonderful night vision of Piazza Venezia.
Other interesting places to visit are Colle Palatino, the Mercati di Traiano, Teatro Marcello, Portico di Ottavia and Largo Argentina.
I hope that now you have a great will of taking the first fly for Rome and I'm here in order to answer to all your questions! In the next post, I will tell you about all the wonderful Church we have in Rome...and then you can ask if you want to know something in particular about the Eternal City.
See you in Rome!
